A Letter From My Future Self, Knowing It All Worked Out

A Letter From My Future Self, Knowing It All Worked Out

Dear Angie,

I wanted to write to tell you that the kids are alright. Those hurdles that you watched them trip over hundreds of times? Those injuries they incurred that you thought they could never come back from? They did. You helped them but mostly they did it on their own.

Also, you never experienced another earthquake like the one in Kobe in ’95. There were a few small ones but no more buildings came down around you.

You never got rich but you never ran out of money either. Your career never really took off but you wrote some amazing stuff. I’m proud of you for offering yourself to the world like that without the traditional extrinsic rewards. I only wished you would have written more.

You lived to be pretty old. You kept your health reasonably intact largely due to those little things you always doubted really mattered: yoga, vitamins, walks, and yes, meditation.

Oh, and those people you thought didn’t like you? Some didn’t but most were just too busy worrying about their own problems to exchange kindnesses with you. When they did think about you they thought you were pretty awesome. And when you were kind to them, it made their day.

So I hope that helps. Try to enjoy your life. Take in the moments. Don’t let your worries keep you from really living.

With love,

Angie
