This Storm Will Not Prevail
I’ve been standing in the storm
a while now
so long I can’t remember
the color of the sky
All my attempts to shelter
become annihilated
such is the intensity
of this deluge
My clothes are soaked
my shoes, mere puddles
When was the last time
I was dry?
Today a gust of wind
knocked me over
My weathered body
lacks strength
When this tempest clears
because eventually they always do
I will carry its shadow on my heart
so long have I endured this torrent
And they will call me Triumph
because in all that time
I was kept alive
by courage
