Brood

Brood

It was at that moment

that the chasm opened up beneath me

You were already lost in it

I knew it and I didn’t know it

Darkness had already closed in

and the air had already become cold

I began immediately

to fight the knowledge of this

You had chosen your path

and were already so far down it

I could barely see you

and only faintly hear you

How could this have happened on my watch?

Where were all the warning signs?

If I had seen them could I have staved off this terror

or was this your and thus my inevitability?

I want to believe

I could have saved you or me

But this was our path

and we must make peace with it

I’m glad

I found you again

I never stopped loving you

I never will
